JUNE 2011 HAPPENINGS!

FYI - Events around town:

JUNE 1 -12      Gerai OA will be part of "Green Heroes Unite!" event at Tropicana City, thanks to EcoKnights.
                        Although the programme runs from 1-12 June, Gerai OA will only be open from 1-7 June.
                        Gerai OA is a volunteer group that sells authentic crafts made by orang asli and all sales
                        are given back to the crafters. As its a tabletop sale, they're only bringing small items and a
                        selection of books, CDs & DVDs.
                        *There are a few other vendors of eco & green items, and side programmes plus activities
                          & talks.

JUNE 2-12      Mother Nature's Beauty in 3-D on Leather  - Solo exhibition by Wendy Tang
                        at Annexe Gallery (2nd floor, building next to Central Market/Pasar Seni)..
                       *  Exhibition opening on June 2,@ Thu  11am.
                       * Artist demonstration also on June 2, @ 12.30pm & 7.30pm.
                        Renowned leather artisan Wendy Tang discovered her calling in life when she successfully
                        merged the knowledge, skills and discipline of silver-smithing, dress designing, art painting
                        and leather crafting to form her unique style of creative three dimensional leather work.

JUNE 4, Sat    The Human Mind - Art Talk by Phillip Wong@ 4pm, Muse floor, Starhill Gallery
                         and 3 women artists exhibition opening, installation art and furniture art show by KBU
                         students & lecturer.
     
JUNE 5, Sun    Kaka Art Market @Shaw Parade (tenants-Eu Yan Seng & Purple Cane), a smaller
                        shopping centre behind Berjaya Time Square. Lots of young contemporary artists & crafters.

JUNE 6-30       Garden of Hidden Desires (where contemporary art meets fashion & beauty) exhibition
                         @Wei-Ling Contemporary Gallery, The Gardens Mall (beside Mid Valley). It is right next
                         to Robinson's (Grd lfr, shoes & cosmetic section). It is more accessible. Just walk-in and
                         enjoy the exhibits. I recommend to those interested in textile art, fashion & even crafts. One
                         of the art piece is a huge rattan 'head' that open into a chair. Mannequins don gowns (made
                         from interesting 'art' fabrics specially designed by 8 of Malaysia's top designers, in
                         collaboration with emerging Malaysian artists.
                        
JUNE 11, Sat   Creative Muse @The Weld, Jalan Raja Chulan (near KL Tower)  11a, - 6pm.
                         ACG's newest member, Eva Ng will be there. Do go & support her! organised by           
                         CUTOUT magazine, Malaysia

JUNE 12, Sun   Textile and Embroidery Art course begins.10am-1pm  by Siti Aishah Awaluddin &
                          Crazeepatches.
                         This course is specially prepared for ACG's Craft sponsorship programme in order to
                          provide basic art & design knowledge
                          Lesson 1 - Colour study - Colour Wheel, ....
                                         - Getting to know - artist/art movement ... Mondrian
                                         - Fabric painting techniques - using aluminium foil, ....
                                         - Embroidery basics, Line/couching/chain samplers
                                         - Project
                         Ad-hoc lesson : This lesson is open to public. ACG members - RM30 & non-members RM50.
                         Full course is RM400 (ACG members), RM600 (non-members), excluding material cost.

JUNE 18& 19   Art for Grabs - Art below RM100 @Annexe Gallery.
                          In conjunction with KL ALTERNATIVE BOOKFEST. Last year, they had more than  
                         1500 folks turning up to buy books, art and crafts.
                          Some ACG members will be having booths
                          So bring your friends and come support & join in the craziness & fun!
                          So...many crafts and artists to check out!
