CARNIVAL OF TEXTILE @ National Textile Museum

The full schedule of events in Carnival of Textile 2011

Take Note:
Dec 4  SUN : Our ACG member, Bremen Wong is giving a talk on his very intricate, creative headgear (ala Lady Gaga!)

Dec 18 SUN :  ECO-ECLECTIC FASHION SHOW & AUCTION
6PM-9PM

PJCAD (PJ College of Art & Design) & ecoCent$ is holding a fashion show of the works by the fashion design students of PJCAD centre around an eco theme..  ACG is the creative coordinator for the event. It is a closed door event where only those involved in the creative and  fashion industry are invited. ACG members 2011 & 2012 will be receiving their invitations soon.

ACG members 2011 & 2012 can apply (by email acgmalaysia@gmail.com) to set up at their ECO BAZAAR for the nite only.  As space is very limited (the organisers  r sending out 400 invitations..!), this would be more of a 'introduce your work' opportunity. We will limit to only a few items per member as we'd like to include as many members as we can (details to be worked out once we receive your applications). Items for sale should preferably be at least 70% re-used, re-purposed, re-cycled, up-cycled or made of found items. SHOW THEM YOUR CREATIVITY!!  Bring lots of leaflets & namecards.  Look out for more news in FACEBOOK.

Also check out :
Learn from the 'sifu's (artisan) about how the various textiles are made or embellished! Never knew there were so many types, ya?!
WE SHOULD ALL BE PROUD OF (AND KNOW ABOUT) EACH OTHER'S ETHNIC CULTURE & HERITAGE & THEN SEE HOW WE HAVE EVOLVED CULTURALLY TO BE TRULY MALAYSIAN...

And then we can also BE PROUD OF OUR CREATIVITY..  Being creative does'nt only mean knowing how to draw or paint or do handmade items, it's APPRECIATING THE WORLD AROUND US, BEING HUMAN - CONNECTING TO THE BASICS, TO OUR EXPERIENCES, EXPLORING OUR INNER POTENTIAL, REALISING THE BEAUTY IN LIFE, LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS OUT OF THE BOX...

That's why artists paint, crafters craft and buyers support to have a part of each other's experience! One should not look at a HANDMADE ITEM based on the materials used alone. What about the IDEA, the ORIGINALITY, the BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS (..sorry drama a bit, but some crafters have actually shed blood through needle pricks, cutter cuts, sprained wrists, cramped fingers...) and the PASSION (sleepless nites crafting, sleepless nites conceptualising/formulating/designing in alpha-state, panda eyes) these crafters took to produce the items?!!

WORKSHOP UPDATE!
The Carnival of Textile kicked off on 1 Nov, with our ACG workshops - 2 sessions (morning ) & (afternoon) from TUE-THU.  The response was OK, considering it's a weekday.  But things r heating up!

ACG members have been sharing and announcing our workshops on their blog. Yay!!  Many thanks for all your support.

A group of fashion design students from PJ CAD visited  the museum and were very interested to join the SHIBORI and WIRE JEWELRY workshops for the weekend session.

For SHIBORI, u could bring a white t-shirt to practice on!  Those with their own t-shirts can join in even if it's already more than 20 participants, as we would like to accomodate as many as we can.
There will be two workshops by Fatimah Chik - Shibori :  CHOOSE either 13 Nov SUN 10am OR 19 Nov SAT 2pm

Shibori is an intricate tie & dye method. the facilitator is Fatimak Chik, who is a batik artist in her own right. With 30 years experience in all forms of batik work and have her batik work collected as art, she is truly an inspiration and a good teacher (20 years with MIA).  She is also a warm person & as a member, she is supportive of ACG and our objectives.

So those not wanting to miss out, come early to register first, then jalan2 around the galleries. Dont give it just a cusory look. Read the labels, look at it close-up (but don't touch), see the raw materials used, admire the workmanship, read the poster writeups.. You will be 'educated' & intriqued' :)

Some people have called Asmah (the museum liason) to try & reserve places for the workshops. ACG has received emails asking about how to get there & how to register, FB is buzzing...!
